SAMANTHA THORNHILL is an international poet, writer, performer, educator, and film producer from Trinidad & Tobago.  She’s been invited to share her versatile works in a variety of contexts across the US, Europe, Africa, and the Caribbean. After graduating with her BFA in Creative Writing from Florida State University, and her MFA in poetry from the University of Virginia, Samantha moved to New York City, where for the past decade she’s taught poetry to first year actors at The Juilliard School. Additionally, she teaches creative workshops to the elderly, as well as urban and rural youth. Seventeen literary journals and anthologies have featured her poems, and in 2010, Scholastic Books published her ode to the folk legend Odetta in picture book form. Russell Simmons contracted Samantha to curate and produce content for his YouTube channel, All Def Poetry. Samantha is currently producing and co-directing a documentary about the teenage daughters of incarcerated fathers.  She is the founding curator of Poets in Unexpected Places, which received a Brooklyn Arts Council grant, and was profiled in the New York Times for their dynamic, pop up poetry performances in public spaces. Presently, she does online writing coaching, and writes for Femde.com.
